What's in the bundle?

How do I set it up, first time?

1. Pick a socket you'll actually use — by the desk, the sofa or the bed. Any 3-pin socket; it doesn't need to be switched on.
2. Place the mat where bare skin will rest on it, textured conductive side up. The Desk Mat under the desk for feet; the Floor & Sleep Mat on the floor, the sofa, or across the foot of the bed.
3. Snap the cord onto the metal stud at the mat's corner until it clicks.
4. Plug in. Cord into the Safety Adapter, adapter into the socket. Only the earth pin makes contact.
5. Check the mat. Touch the tester pen to the surface. It lights: the surface conducts. That's the product half of the proof.
6. Check the socket, once. A socket tester — in the Tester Kit — confirms the outlet has a live earth. That's the other half. The pen can't see the socket, and the socket tester can't see the mat; both together is a grounded mat.
7. Use it. Bare skin on the mat gives the strongest connection; thin natural-fibre socks — cotton or bamboo — conduct once lightly damp from the skin's natural moisture, while synthetics don't. An hour a day, every day, is the habit that shows whether grounding does anything for you.

How do I clean the mat?

A damp cloth, then air dry. That's all. Never the washing machine, and never soak it. Body lotion can leave a film — apply it at least an hour before using the mat, or wipe the mat after.

What if the pen doesn't light?

A dark pen means the surface isn't conducting where you touched it.

1. The surface. Wipe with a damp cloth to remove any lotion or dust film, dry, test again.
2. The stud. Touch the pen to the metal stud. Lit there but not on the surface means a film on the surface — back to step 1.
3. The pen. If it lights on nothing, not even the stud, message us; we'll replace it.

What if the socket tester shows a fault?

Use another socket. If every socket fails, send us a photo; a grounding rod is the usual answer.

Frequently asked questions

Does the pen prove I'm grounded?

No. It proves the mat's surface conducts. A socket tester proves the earth is present at the wall. Together they're the practical proof; a multimeter reading of your body voltage dropping is the definitive one.

Does the mat use electricity?

No. The cord connects only to the earth pin and carries a 100 kΩ resistor. No household current flows, and the socket doesn't need to be on.

Does it work through socks?

Bare skin is best. Thin natural-fibre socks — cotton or bamboo — conduct once lightly damp from the skin's natural moisture; synthetic socks and shoes don't.

How long until I notice anything?

Customers who notice something usually say one to four weeks of daily use. Some notice nothing; the checks confirm the setup either way, and we'd rather tell you that than promise.
