Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about getting grounded safely and effectively. Updated 11 September 2026.

🌱 The Basics

What is grounding?

Grounding (also called earthing) is skin contact with the Earth's surface — walking barefoot outside, or, indoors, using a grounding product connected to the earth pin of your wall socket. Your body's electrical charge equalises with the Earth's. The proposed mechanism is that free electrons from the ground reach the body and calm inflammation; small peer-reviewed studies report better sleep, steadier cortisol and reduced inflammation markers. We lay out exactly what the studies found, and where they are weak.

How do grounding products work indoors?

Every socket in Singapore and Malaysia has an earth pin wired to a conductor in the soil beneath your building. Our products carry conductive silver thread or a conductive surface, and a cord snaps them to that earth pin. No electricity flows to you — the earth wire is a safety path, not a power line — and it works on the 30th floor exactly as it does on the ground floor. The whole story is in You Live in the Sky.

Do I need to turn anything on or off?

No. The earth pin is connected whether the socket switch is on or off. Once snapped and plugged in, the product works passively and continuously.

Can I just ground outdoors instead?

Absolutely — barefoot on grass, sand or soil is grounding in its original form, and it's free. Products exist for the hours that matter most and are hardest to spend outside: the seven or eight you're asleep. Most customers do both.

🛡️ Safety

Is grounding safe?

Yes. Every Naturalive cord has a built-in 100 kΩ resistor that lets the Earth's charge pass freely but limits any household fault current to an imperceptible level, and a safety adapter for local three-pin sockets ships with every product. Our Tester Kit confirms a socket's earth in seconds. If you have a pacemaker or other implanted electrical device, take blood-thinning medication, or are pregnant, talk to your doctor before starting.

Should I unplug during a thunderstorm?

Your Naturalive cord connects only to the earth pin of your socket — it carries no household electricity, and every cord has a built-in 100 kΩ safety resistor that limits current to a harmless trickle and is designed to fail safely before any ordinary electrical fault on the earth line could reach you. We know of no confirmed case anywhere of someone being harmed through a grounding product in a storm. That said, no small resistor can stop a direct lightning strike — nothing in your home can — so in Singapore and Malaysia, where afternoon storms are a fact of life, we recommend a simple habit: when thunder is close, unplug the cord for the hour, the way you might a laptop, and plug it back in when the sky clears. Skipping one night changes nothing about your results. The one setup where we always say unplug is a grounding rod pushed into the soil, which is a direct path to the ground.

Who should consult their doctor first?

Anyone with a pacemaker or implanted electrical device, anyone on blood-thinning medication, anyone pregnant or nursing, and anyone with a serious medical condition. Grounding complements medical care; it never replaces it.

What if my socket is old or damaged?

Check it before use — the socket tester in our Tester Kit makes this a ten-second job. If a socket shows a fault, use another; if all of them do, a grounding rod to real soil is the usual answer. A socket with a live-or-neutral fault should be looked at by an electrician regardless. Never use grounding products with a damaged outlet or an ungrounded extension.

Can I use a power strip or extension cord?

Only one that keeps a proper 3-pin earth connection. Never a two-pin adapter — no earth pin means no earth. Direct into the wall socket is always best.

Will grounding affect my electronics?

No. It's a connection to the same earth your appliances already use. No interference with phones, Wi-Fi or computers.

⚡ Using Your Products

How do I set up my product?

Every product has its own guide — what's in the box, the steps, testing, care and troubleshooting. Find yours on the setup guides page. In short: snap the cord onto the metal stud, plug the adapter into any 3-pin socket, and rest bare skin on the surface.

Do I need direct skin contact?

Bare skin gives the strongest connection. Thin natural fibre — a cotton sheet over a topper, cotton or bamboo socks on a mat — conducts once lightly damp from the skin's natural moisture; synthetics and thick layers block it. Whatever you choose, the grounding product must be the layer nearest your skin.

How do I know it's working?

Two checks, each proving one half. A socket tester proves your wall outlet has a live earth. The tester pen — included in every order — proves the product's material conducts. Together, with the product snapped and plugged in, that's a grounded setup. Neither proves the other. For proof on your own body, a multimeter on AC volts shows your body voltage falling toward zero when you touch the connected product; we'll walk you through it on WhatsApp. Full detail in the Tester Kit guide.

Why does the tester pen only light on some parts of my sheet?

On a mat the whole surface conducts, so the pen lights anywhere. On a sheet or pillowcase only the fine silver thread lines woven through the cotton conduct: the pen lights only when both of its tips rest directly on a silver line, and stays dark on the plain cotton between — which is normal. Your body spans many lines at once, so skin contact isn't affected. Photos in the pen guide.

Does the tester pen prove I'm grounded?

No. It proves the material conducts. The socket tester proves the earth is present at the wall. Together they're the practical proof; a multimeter reading of your body voltage dropping is the definitive one.

How long should I ground each day?

More grounded hours, more chance of noticing anything — you can't over-ground any more than you can spend too long barefoot on grass. Most people ground eight hours a night on a sheet; a mat adds desk or sofa hours. Consistency matters more than intensity.

Can I use multiple products at once?

Yes — a sheet at night and a mat by day is the usual pairing. Each product needs its own cord.

Can I travel with them?

Yes, anywhere with a properly earthed 3-pin socket — Singapore and Malaysia share the same standard. Abroad you may need a plug adapter that keeps the earth pin; a socket tester is worth packing.

🧺 Care & Longevity

How do I wash my grounding sheets?

Every one to two weeks, machine-wash warm (up to 40 °C) or cool — never hot — with a plain liquid detergent free of fabric softener, bleach, fragrance and essential oils. Those four coat the silver in an insulating film and are the number-one reason sheets "stop working"; a correct wash usually restores them. Line-dry or tumble low, no dryer sheets. Mats and the topper are simpler: a damp cloth, then air dry — never the washing machine. Unsure about a detergent? Send us the label.

How long do they last?

Cared for as above, years — our bedding fabric passed 50,000 abrasion cycles at Bureau Veritas. The silver in bedding doesn't wear out; it gets coated, and washing fixes that, so test bedding with the pen monthly. Mats and the topper need no testing schedule — a wipe is their whole maintenance. Every product carries a one-year warranty on defects.

📦 Orders, Returns & Guarantee

What's your returns policy?

Unopened items come back within 60 days for a full refund, with return postage on us in Singapore and Malaysia. Slept-on bedding can't return for change of mind, for hygiene reasons — but every product is guaranteed to conduct: if yours can't be grounded, we test it with you over WhatsApp and refund in full. One-year warranty on defects. The whole policy, in plain language →

How much is shipping?

Free on orders over $20 across Singapore and Malaysia; Malaysian orders dispatch locally.

❤️ Results & Science

How soon will I notice results?

Customers who notice something usually say one to four weeks of consistent nightly use. Some people notice nothing, and we'd rather tell you that than promise. The checks above tell you the setup is right; what your body does with it is yours to judge over weeks, not days.

What does grounding feel like?

Usually nothing dramatic, and that's normal — you're simply at the Earth's potential, as you would be barefoot outside. Some people report a subtle warmth or calm; the real feedback arrives as better mornings over weeks, not sensations on demand.

What if I feel discomfort at first?

A small number of people report mild, temporary tingling or restlessness in the first nights — it usually passes. Ease in gradually: a few hours first, then full nights. If discomfort persists, stop and speak with your doctor.

Is there real research behind this?

Yes, and it's early: four peer-reviewed studies report improvements in sleep and cortisol, circulation, inflammation markers and muscle recovery. They're small, several share authors and funding, and no large independent trial exists yet — which is why we say studies report rather than proven. We link every paper with its sample size on our research page.

How does grounding relate to EMF concerns?

Some studies measure lower induced body voltage when grounded, which is where EMF discussions usually begin. We deliberately don't market with EMF fear — the well-studied ground for grounding is sleep, cortisol and inflammation, so that's where our claims stay.
